Just started making TikTok videos and they're not getting any views or likes outside my followers.

I know this topic has been talked about to death here, but I feel like my situation is slightly different or different from the posts I've seen at least.
I made my first video about a week ago and I've been posting almost everyday. I don't expect to go viral or become famous after a few videos, nor do I expect even 1k views. But none of my videos have even gotten to 100 views and all the likes I've gotten are from my followers which consist of my friends and family. Again, I don't expect anything big, but why can't I even get 100 views? From what I've seen/read about, people usually get a couple hundred views and some likes on their first few videos before the drop begins but I haven't even gotten that.
Also, I currently live abroad (I'm from the U.S) so I thought maybe it was because my videos weren't compatible with the viewers here (the humor in this country and the U.S is very different). So I tried uploading with a VPN, but nothing's changed. I'm not most entertaining person ever by any means, but I've seen far less entertaining videos get thousands of views and I don't understand how. I haven't tried deleting and reposting, but I also heard that doesn't work.
Anyone know what I can do about this? I enjoy making videos as it's been helping me get back in touch with my creative side, but it's so discouraging when it's barely being watched. It's gotten to the point where I've thought about buying followers to make my account look more presentable(?), but right now that's just a thought. :(
