Valid (?) Reasons for Social Media Detox
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Time is a Scarce resource and I don't believe that it is worth wasting if you spend a substantial amount of time looking at other peoples' artificially created superficial lives on a platform that peer pressurizes people into developing either insecurities or narcissism and if you don't develop either then you wasted your time anyway.
Social Media fucks up your attention span.
It forces you to socialize with people you never have given a fuck about and never will.
It turns you into a people pleaser in general.
Bombards you with notifications from people far away and you end up prioritizing that person over the one sitting on the other side of the table.
It serves as a major distraction from real time meaningful conversations.
It makes you objectify people, we start using our friends as props for an Instagram post during outings/trips/dates/hangout sessions etc and our focus gets directed towards coming up with a witty yet nostalgic caption.
It more often than not turns you into a cult like follower of your favorite celebrity since it satisfies our need to believe in something and belong to a group (see: Apple v Windows debates)
It Kills all your prospects of developing conversation skills and ends in making us emit awkward gestures when faced with a real time confrontation.
It makes you subconsciously reinforce meritless hierarchies that are built around popularity and diminishes your sense of evaluating someone's credibility because of the parameters that social media sets.
