What can the Wayback Machine find? How does it work?
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
I recently found out about the Wayback Machine, and how it captures deleted content on the web, including some social media posts. I have some questions:
- Can it find posts or comments that were deleted on Reddit? If so, how does it work? I tested it with a deleted account by searching reddit.com/user/myusername but nothing popped up. Is it safe to say that the information wasn't captured or did I search incorrectly?
- Same question about Instagram. Can it find deleted posts and comments? Can it save content from private accounts?
- Are there any archive sites that work better for deleted social media? If something is deleted from the Wayback Machine, will it deleted from all sites or just Wayback? Can people find deleted posts from Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Tumblr etc. just from using key words such as username or full name?
What leads me to think that I've been searching incorrectly is that when I searched for my twitter using twitter.com/myusername, nothing popped up but when I searched twitter.com/myusername/status, a lot popped up.
