Switching from private to public - Instagram

I am thinking of switching my private account (54 followers - 405 following) to public to attract traffic to my other social media accounts.
I am a bit concerned with going public (I will be archiving all posts) because I don’t want people to be stalking or sending creepy messages.
I just have this weird feeling because the people I follow are people I personally know, so I don’t want people checking out my posts ( I have blocked quite a few people).
Would going public mean all my blocks becoming unblocked? Would it allow anyone to message me?
