Fastest way to learn how to create media for posts?

I recently got a job as a social media manager. I am the only one working with the companies social media. I am expected to create original content, but I have zero graphic design knowledge. Can someone recommend a starting point? It would be great if I could a simple program to make media that will suffice while I learn a more in depth program.
Are there any resources where I can get images that are not copy righted. I was thinking I could use images created by others that are free to use, and tweak them to be relevant to my posts. Thanks.
