Best Settings for Effective Facebook Ads?

The company I work for are considering social media ads into the marketing budget for the first time alongside a push for a new brand, so I obviously want to get it right. We’re a big company but are fairly new to social. The brand is DIY/ Homecare and we’re UK based.
I’ve been experimenting with settings in the Ad creator, including audience, demographics, location and budget/day. I’m looking at page promotions at the moment.
I’ve done my own experimentation but wanted to hear the input from others who have experience. My findings have shown there are ideal settings for social ads, but I wanted to here other findings. I’m looking at page promotions at the moment.
What is the ideal budget/ day? What is the ideal location size? What is the ideal audience size? Any other tips?
