Does instagram suppress posts that contain "#ad" or branded partners?

The account I manage has a huge disparity between average likes on a post and likes on posts with #ad. Sponsored posts get about 10% of the likes, even though the content looks identical to the rest of the feed. Does anyone know about this or have a workaround? It's starting to make me nervous about future partnerships.
