Not able to understand this behavior of facebook ads

Hi,
I created a new ad to boost engagement with people on Facebook. What Facebook did was created a new post on Instagram with the same pic and caption which is not even visible in my Instagram account. I mean I am receiving tones of like on that pic on Instagram but when I click the corresponding pic in my insta profile it has very few likes and I can't seem to find that other pic in my account.
I mean if it's promoting a post on my insta profile its fine but here its a proxy post which doesn't exist. And it's using the budget while nothing is happening on the Facebook page where I wanted the audience to go
Is this normal behavior or did I accidentally enable something wrong while creating the ad?
How to stop it?
