Need help explaining why we need landing pages

I run the social media for an company in the Caribbean. I was brought on for graphic design and posting PR related content to social media, but from what I've studied, leads should be funneled to a landing page.
My proposal:Funnel potential customers via various ads that showcase specific products/services to landing pages that contain contact forms.Once someone contacts us, they're a lead. We contact them to see if we can help them with out services/explain why we're great for them/convert them.
The argument against it:"We already have a contact form on the website for general inquiries. When anyone has a question, they can just come to our website then we'll answer their questions as we've been doing".
Is my approach really redundant?I think I'm taking a more proactive/aggressive approach to getting leads, but I need help explaining why my approach is better.
Note:I knowi n theory this would be a lot simpler if ads link to landing pages with a product that can be purchased right there, but that's not an option. The public has to be contacted by us to be made a customer.
