So, I've been reading and following the Skinny Confidential for years. It's a blog created by Lauryn Evarts. I also listen to her podcast with her husband and I truly LOVE it. They talk about all kinds of health and other interesting topics with great people. Now, sometimes she can be a little much, obnoxious if you will, but she owns up to that. She's not for everyone and I have gone in and out of phases of liking her. However, no one has to like anyone fully, and overall I adore her persistence and realness in the blogger/influencer community. One thing that truly makes me cringe about her are the overly FaceTuned images she continues to post on Instagram. Sure, I could unfollow her, but I actually like watching her stories to get her tips and see what she's up to. Today, she posted an extremely edited photo making her look at least 20 pounds lighter. It was such an over-edit that it looked like she cut and paste her head onto another person's body. IG post from the Skinny Confidential on July 14, 2018 Now, I'm not saying FaceTune is bad, but it's getting a little out of control. Some people are so good at it that you wouldn't even know it was Facetuned and their body has been morphed to 6 sizes smaller than what they actually are in real life. I actually use Facetune, to get rid of blemishes, whiten my teeth, but beyond that I don't feel the need to pinch and sculpt my body digitally. It's sad that Lauryn Evarts feels the pressure to do this. I'm sure her fans would love her no matter what. Also, why is she displaying such terrible body confidence for her readers? Can't they tell the difference between her photos and the videos of her on YouTube? (Note the difference in her "appearance" from photos only 16 days apart.) I am here writing this so that people can see the difference between the actual person Lauryn Evarts and what she displays to her public: a completely different body image (i.e. MUCH SKINNIER) She claims to be real and she puts out so much good content, but she clearly feels pressure to have a certain body. I figured, I could leave a comment on The Skinny Confidential IG. So I wrote: "I really want to like this picture but I can't support the over edited FaceTuned persona." Yes, it's a bit harsh, but I thought maybe she would look inward. Instead she blocked me WITHIN SECONDS!!!! So, now my comment is gone and I think she deletes/blocks any users that don't have something nice to say. In her defense, I'm sure it's overwhelming and I'm sure she gets a lot of hate, but is it really that bad that she has to delete and block anyone with an opinion she doesn't like? Seriously, I thought she would have thicker skin by now. Anyways, I'd love to hear thoughts on this. And Lauryn, if you ever find this, please I hope you can find confidence in your body no matter what you look like. [link] [comments] |
