Converting Instagram Followers To Buyers In 3 Easy Steps

Instagram is a powerful platform that can help you get more sales for your product-based local business, but I guess you know this already and you’re here right now because you’ve not been able to use this online sales platform to acquire new customers regularly.

The strategy I’m about to discuss with you has been tested and works for product-based local business owners like you, and it’s so simple anyone can implement it.

This 3-step guide will cover 3 main things you need to do to sell to your current Instagram followers through:

Creating an Instagram offer

Segmenting your audience

Reaching out to your segmented audience

Ready? Alright let’s get started with step 1.

STEP 1: Creating An Instagram Offer

Yes! This is the first step to increasing sales on Instagram, but what is an Instagram Offer?

An Instagram offer is a “special” offer you create specifically for the people who follow you on Instagram.

Your “special” Instagram offer can be:

  1. A discount (20% or 50% off)

  2. Free Product

  3. Free product when they pay for a product

Note: It is important to make this offer “irresistible”

STEP 2: Segmenting Your Audience

This step isn’t as hard as it sounds and it’s something you do every time, but try to look at it differently now.

Segmenting your audience can be done by posting an image or video on your Instagram business page, this should be an easy-to-understand post your followers would love to see, here’s an example of how a restaurant can use this:

BUT you don’t own a restaurant, right?

You can take this example and make it work for any business you’re in.

Once the photo/video is posted on your Instagram business page, your followers will segment themselves, the non-active ones will scroll past the photo, the active ones will like the photo, and the super active ones will like and comment.

STEP 3: Reaching Out To Your Segmented Audience

This is the last and most important step, here are the things you have to do to ensure this works.

Engage With Your Active Audience

Tap on the likes in your post and engage with people who liked or commented on your post, then like one or two of their photos.

Message With Special Offer

Messaging the people who liked or commented on your post helps you convert them to paying customers.

It’s time to message “your post likers and commenters” with your special offer, and here’s a simple template you can use to message them:

“Hello [Follower name], we love your feed and thanks for interacting with our latest post, we would like to reward you with a special 30% discount on [your product] today, remember this discount will only be available to you for 3 days.”

Note: Replace [Follower name] with the name of the follower you’re messaging.

Things You Shouldn’t Do With This Strategy

The strategy we just discussed works quite well but here are a few things you should avoid:

Don’t send more than 20 Direct Messages daily

Don’t copy and paste the messaging template in this article, keep things creative and fresh.

Don’t forget to follow-up with people who you have messaged.

The messaging part of this strategy is quite stressful, so I advise you hire an account manager or virtual assistant to help you with that.
