Shay Mitchell was named as the face of Cacharel’s latest Yes I Am fragrance

Fragrance label Cacharel has a new ambassador: Canadian actress Shay Mitchell. The star is representing the third fragrance to launch out of the Yes I Am collection, which currently has two scents in lipstick-shaped bottles. This upcoming release, named Yes I Am Fabulous, is launching in Europe next month, followed by a broad online distribution (including Amazon) later in March. Cacharel teased its Instagram following yesterday, hinting at a new brand ambassador. Showing off just a silhouette of Mitchell, the post was captioned: “Can you guess who’s our new ambassador? Clues: she’s a model, she’s an actress, she’s an entrepreneur, she’s a mother, she’s a Netflix star.” The ad campaign that will launch was directed by So Me, and stars Mademoiselle Gloria, Rachel Tee-Tyler, Marta Lozano and Cajsa Wessberg alongside Mitchell. “I was literally over the moon to be asked to be the ambassador. I feel like it was such a great fit synergistically,” Mitchell said in an exclusive with WWD. “To me, Cacharel has always been about freedom, independence, empowerment and I truly feel like they captivated the entire essence of the brand with this collection.”

Beautycounter released a documentary about transparency in the beauty industry

Canadian beauty hub Beautycounter is continuing its mission to clean up the beauty industry by reassessing its mica supply chain. Mica is a mineral name given to a group of silicate minerals. It is used across several different industries, anywhere from automotive and electronics to jewellery and cosmetics. In the beauty world, mica is used as a base for powder formulas and is the go-to ingredient for achieving luminous makeup effects—it’s the sparkle in eyeshadow, the shimmer in your lip gloss. For the past two years, Beautycounter has been auditing their mica supply chain (they source it from domestic mines in Hartwell, Georgia and globally), while simultaneously creating a documentary around how they source it. This week, the documentary Beauty Comes Clean: Mica was finally released, and it tells a story on transparency (or lack thereof) and traceable supply chains within the mica mining industry, with acknowledgement of shocking statistics. According to the UN, 73 million children, as young as three years old, are at work in hazardous conditions around the world. Rather than going to school, children work as farmers to dig, sift and haul mica from deep pits in the earth. Through this project, Beautycounter is supporting children in the Jharkhand region of India, a hotspot for international mica mining, and working with the local community to identify where opportunities for change lay in mica mining. Westman Atelier launches a four-colour lip palette

After a year of crafting conscious beauty products, Westman Atelier has debuted The Lip Suede. Formulated with 100 per cent natural ingredients, the product combines proven treatment benefits with colour, which is one of the brand’s trademarks. This product comes in the form of a compact lip palette, something that founder Gucci Westman is accustomed to using as a makeup artist herself. “I have all the lipstick shades I need scooped out and transferred into an empty grid,” says Westman. “I love the freedom of personalizing and customizing. It allows me to add depth or a shot of colour or make a shade completely unique.” The array of four rouge shades—bright tomato, brick red, tawny russet and bright fuchsia—leave a velvety matte finish without compromising moisture and comfort, thanks to high-quality ingredients like cherry oil, marula oil and biomimetic peptides. Plus, a vegetable-derived base–a clean alternative to petroleum jelly –offers a cushioned effect, sans preservatives.

Maybelline New York launched new products at New York Fashion Week F/W20

This week, Maybelline New York turned to New York Fashion Week to tease the release of a couple of new products. The first is Lifter Gloss—something beauty junkies have yet to see from the brand. This lipgloss was used on models backstage at the Christian Siriano show early in the week, and makeup artist Erin Parsons raved to Allure about the product’s 10-shade range. “It’s just not sticky, it gives tons of shine,” Parsons said. “It’s pigmented, but it’s not see-through.” Formulated with hyaluronic acid, a first for Maybelline lip products, this gloss helps to hydrate and plump lips. The second sneaky product debut came at the Michael Kors show. Maybelline Brow Extensions Fiber Pomade Crayon is a gel stick equipped with thickening fibres. They adhere to brow hairs, physically creating a fuller brow and shape, and the matte finish offers a natural-looking brow. “We want to maintain what’s individually beautiful about the girls and the boys,” makeup artist Dick Page said backstage at the show. Though Maybelline’s Fashion Week teases have us wanting to recreate all of the runway beauty looks, these products aren’t available until summer. There’s no word yet on if we will get these launches in Canada, so stay tuned for more.
