Paid promotions in Instagram question

What's up, guys.
I'm a beginner when it comes to social media marketing. I was planning on managing an instagram account for a client and I was thinking of using the paid promotions feature.
First of all, is it even worth it to pay for the promotions?
And second, if I do use it, should I take the money necessary out of my own budget or should I ask the client to invest into the paid promotions, letting me do all the dirty work?
