Why is TikTok pounding to the ground the likes of other social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram?

Before anyone go off on me, check the stats. The app was the most downloaded in Q1 of 2018 surpassing YouTube, Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook.
Why? I tried to make logic of this. Is their competitive advantage leveraged mostly on their in-app features such as filters/stickers? Because surely it’s not the 15-second schtick that marketers bang on about. Instagram and Snapchat is built on that foundation. But then again Snapchat and Instagram have their own “stories” and “filters”.
Can’t make sense of this
