Insta Likes and Instant Lies
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Why do we post something on instagram?
Is it because we like our friends to see what we are upto?
Is is to get likes from strangers whom we never meet?
The answer is both actually.
Social validation is now restricted only to how many likes and followers we have on instagram. But, do we always truly like the picture when clicking the like button or we are just doing it out of habit or that we know that person.
Once my friend was scrolling through her instagram feed and liking pictures of strangers whom she follow but doesn't even know. I asked her that why is she liking them she doesn't even them. She replied " Ya, but they also like my picture soo...." See what the problem is. The likes are not actual likes. They are lies.
People don't like your picture because you have posted a truly awesome picture or worked very hard on it for posting it in a high quality. Even a random trivial picture by a huge insta star gets many likes from strangers. So, I ask you what are the true values of these likes. Aren't these likes done out of habit or morbid curiosity or mutual benefit.
If so, then is it truly valid to evaluate yourself and others based on the likes and followers(strangers) a person has on instagram. Depression rates are rising, people are getting more and more insecure about their own self and when they compare one's worth with others based on such things such as likes then social insecurity only grows.
It's nothing wrong with posting pictures and getting likes and followers. You should be happy about it, but taking the likes and followers with a grain of salt and not valuing yourself based on such things is not healthy. So, next time you get a like or a follow request, don't think too much about it and do the same even if you don't get such things. After all, the aim of these apps are to make us more social and secure and not anti-social and insecure.
