Facebook: The Sweetspot Friend Number?

Is there such a thing? I begrudgingly use it and have pretty much all the people I care to be in contact with it...but is there some magical number when Facebook STOPS suggesting people to be your friends? I just wish I could turn it off altogether.
I don't give a damn about some one that went to a class with an old grade school friend in college who I will never met....
