Non-Profit Social Media Strategy

Does anyone have experience with non-profit social media strategy?

I work as the comms coordinator for a non-profit and a big part of my job is social media. Currently, we post waaayy too much. Twice a day on FB, Twitter, and Instagram. Not only has this resulted in decreased engagement and community fatigue, it has set the precedent that the dumbest things are social media worthy.

I'm trying to change that.

I am a big believer in the 20/80 rule. However, due to our non-profit's structure that isn't a sustainable strategy. We run multiple programs that have registration dates, offer public education sessions, need to advertise our advocacy, etc. There's a whole lot of content our executives and board want posted, but I don't think provides a lot of value to the bulk of our audience. In an ideal world, we would be able to offer a whole wack of success story articles, useful blog posts, and similar content providing value to our community. Unfortunately, as the sole comms and marketing person for the organization I cannot devote the amount of time needed to create content on a regular basis for such a robust strategy.

Has anyone had experience working in social media in the non-profit field? How do you balance internal expectations with effective strategy? Part of me thinks the best solution is to approach our director and say we need to devote more resources to our marketing and communications, but that's unlikely to happen.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
