Showing my value pre-interview with a project or proposal?
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Background:

After applying to a Marketing and Social Media Coordinator position, I hear back and they ask me "Could you send me some writing samples and social media accounts you have managed recently?" Problem is I haven't managed any social media accounts recently, I'm returning to work after taking time off. That's evident on my resume for the date of my last job. FYI there has been no interview yet.

Even though I haven't proactively managed any social media accounts lately, I'm up-to-date with best practices and trends as I spend time reading and learning because it's my passion. I wouldn't have applied if I wasn't confident in the value I'd bring. I've also worked in a similar niche as their clients and know how difficult it is marketing a human as opposed to a physical product or service.

Questions:

I'd like to send some kind of informal proposal to show them what I'd do for them. I've done the research and have jotted down ideas. I just don't know how to present the ideas tying it in with the overall strategy, in a proposal type way. Is there a format I should follow?

OR

Is there some kind of a project I could do? This would be easier to do after a formal interview where I have the opportunity to learn about their business challenges.

My overall goal is to show the value I'd bring to this position but there's a fine line with giving my knowledge away for free and not coming off like a know it all. I plan on presenting these as suggestions and using the appropriate language. Raghav Haran covers this in a Medium article ' How to Get Any Job You Want (even if you’re unqualified)' about doing a pre-interview project. (not letting me link).

Has anyone ever done this for a social media position? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
