Sending facebook messages to people you read about on the news?

Has anyone ever read a news article about someone and afterwards looked up that person on facebook, and then sent them a message regarding the topic of the news article? For example, I once read an article discussing how a college student went missing. The article contained his name, so I looked up his name on FB and found his profile right away. I then sent him a PM about how I hope that someone would find him (he ended up being murdered in a park).
So does anyone else feel a strong curiosity to look up people that they read about in the news? Especially since they usually include the person's name, unless it was rape victim or something
