Instagram deleted my account without notice or warning?

Was updating my square space website and saw that the instagram account needed to be relinked - tried to login with the credentials I remembered. When it didn't work I tried to reset the password only to find that the account no longer exists. I typed in the url with the appropriate ending and I get a message that the user does not exist.
I never received notice from Instagram that they were shutting down the account. I do not use any sort of scheduler or bot with the account. Why did this happen and, more importantly, is there any way to get it back?
