Facebook's Algorithm Is Changing, Here's What That Looks Like Right Now
http://ift.tt/eA8V8J
I run a network of over a dozen pages with nearly half a million likes. We started tracking an unusual decline in engagement per post a little over 48 hours ago and thought it might be the change to the Algorithm we've been warned about. I began tracking my own newsfeed to detect changes and here's what I've found so far.
-
0% of posts in my newsfeed over the last 48 hours came from pages I've "liked", down from about 35%.
-
The only content from pages in my feed is coming from friends sharing it as a post on their wall, regardless of if I like that page or not.
-
Only 1 out of 10 shared posts in my feed is not a video. Most often that 1 post is a static image / static meme.
-
9 out of 10 shared posts in my feed are videos.
-
Friends sharing YouTube links as a Facebook post is suddenly appearing in my feed.
-
Friends commenting on posts does get that post in my feed but only from a group I've joined, a post they've made, or a mutual friends post. 0% of posts in my newsfeed that were from a friend commenting on a post over the past 48 hours came from business pages.
If you've been sharing videos from other pages to drive engagement it looks like those days might be numbered. You'll need to start finding ways to make your own videos or obtain legal rights to directly host a video on your page to get engagement from the newsfeed. This is because when a person who likes your page shares a video you shared it gives credit in the feed to the original host of the video.
I'm cataloging changes I see in an ongoing thread on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/YoungbloodJoe/status/961274995354882049
EDIT: As pointed out by /u/nazgul_hunter this is likely an A/B test and you may not see these changes in your feed and they may not stick around long-term.
