Should I be inactive or deactivate my acc

I’m taking a break from social media until June 10th when I finish my final exams (I’m last year highschool) and I’ve been wondering what would be better: To deactivate my Instagram account or just leaving it inactive and putting it on private.
I’ve heard Instagram algorithm “punish” inactive accounts so I don’t know what’s worse: just leaving it like that ( putting it private so I have following requests when I come back and not only unfollows) Or deactivating it...where people probably unfollow me when I come back saying”who’s this lol”.
What do you think I should do?
Pd: I’m not a big account I have 3.1k followers and 850-900 likes average but still lol
