[UK] What to charge for social media management
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

I fell into what is essentially a social media management role 14 months ago. My background is in exhibition and graphic design, with a small amount of social media and copywriting thrown in.

I'm currently a freelance consultant with one business. I manage their social media channels with close to 30k followers, design and run local and national social ad campaigns, create content for their blog and website, and maintain it behind the scenes (customer profiles, news, events etc). I'm paid £1,400 p/m, this was increased from £1,000 after 12 months.

I've recently been approached by another company to manage their social media - 3 accounts, no copywriting and no involvement with their website. This role would also be freelance and can run alongside my other consultancy role. They've asked me to send over a quote for a monthly cost and how I plan to run their accounts. The plan is fine, but I don't know where to start with coming up with a quote!

As a designer, I charged a base rate of £15+ per hour, depending on the job and client. The first 12 months at my current consultancy my salary was unnegotiable as I was subcontracted through another business - I was pleased with a 40% raise after the first 12 months when I began working for the business directly (I realise now I may still be underpaid).

I'm looking online for help but it's mostly American quotes or an hourly price - and I don't feel that an hourly quote would be appropriate in this situation.

I've come to the figure of £750 a month to manage the 3 accounts - essentially £250 per month per account. From initial discussions, the client will be providing 80-90% of the visual content and I will be posting 5-7 times a week per platform, as well as maintaining the accounts and responding to comments/messages.

Does £750 sound like a realistic figure? Or should I be starting with a higher number? I'm wary that I'm replacing an in-house employee who is being made redundant after furlough, so don't want to go in too high and risk losing the job. They also discussed my running social ad campaigns but I assume I would charge this at an additional cost, or should I factor that in from the start?
