How to stop facebook from auto refreshing on iPhone?

So I like to look a memes on Facebook and whenever I exit the fb app, it refreshes when I reopen the app. This is extremely annoying because I’d be thousands of memes in and when it auto refreshes, I’d have to scroll for minutes just to get to where I was at. I tried to turn off background app refresh but that did nothing. If anyone knows how to fix this, I would love to know. Thanks
