Received Message Says ‘Pending’

So I recently deleted someone on Snapchat but decided to set ‘contact me’ to everyone just to see if they had sent me anything and they did. Thing is, the snap they sent me said ‘pending’ on it. Anyone know why this is the case? I understand that, if someone blocks me and I try to message them, the sent message will show up as ‘pending’ to me but I’ve never seen it happen like this. Just curious.
