How to monetize on Douyin (TikTok) ???
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
What do you do when facing a stay at home order?
Try to make it on social media of course. My wife started making videos on Douyin and has seen fairly consistent growth as she learned, for the most part, what she can and can't post. She has 65k followers and her best performing video has almost 100k likes. She would be several times larger if she has started when China was locked down, but that opportunity has passed.
What does she do?
She posts one or two videos a day and replies to as many comments as possible. Her content is funny stories. I helped her by upgrading her audio and supporting her when the platform cuts traffic to her videos. Douyin is very strict and never provides and explanation. Don't make fun of any government leaders, including foreign governments. Don't make fun of any government bodies. Don't make any content that encourages unhealthy behaviour.
Biggest tool?
Douyin promotion. You can pay in the platform to get a specified number of likes or followers. They do this by pushing your content to accounts that tend to like or follow. Best of all, you can be pretty specific regarding demographics. This is an important tool to get started. Once you are big enough all your content will be reviewed. I don't know if this is based on followers, likes or views. At this point, you can look at the promotion page for all of your videos and see which are deemed eligible/ineligible to get a better idea about what content the platform will promote.
Where to go from here?
She has been contacted by several companies that want to promote her on live stream for a cut. It seems that they also like to provide cookie-cutter scripts that will consistently perform well, but this isn't something that should appeal to someone with a personality. She can do live streaming but she doesn't feel confident or that she has enough followers yet.
How many followers should a channel have before it starts live streaming? How big to get sponsors. Do you approach sponsors or do they approach you? How do you determine appropriate rates?
She doesn't want to start advertising until she can charge a sufficiently high rate because she doesn't want to produce more than a few promotions a month.
