How easy is it to hack an Instagram account which has security measures in place?

I got an email from Instagram this morning which said that there had been a request to change my password. I checked the email was legit in the app (settings>security>emails from Instagram) and it was indeed real.
I didn’t request a change of password, so I clicked the ‘If you didn't request a password reset, let us know.’ link. I guess that just sends a notification to Instagram telling them not to change the password this time.
My question is: what happens now? I have a fairly large account that someone has obviously trying to get into and have 2 factor identification in place along with account recovery set up, but I’m interested in how far someone can get with trying to break into my account despite all the security measures? For example, what would have happened if I hadn’t seen the email from Instagram and hadn’t let them know that I didn’t request a password reset? Is there still a chance someone could manage to get in even with 2 step verification in place, or is this pretty watertight?
