questions Ratio of followers to accounts i'm following

I'm working on building up my business's social media and have had a lot of success building followers by following other local accounts. (We are a local business.) I also post regularly and engage with the followers as well. It's been going well.
My question: Is it possible to FOLLOW too many people? I know many SM managers will use the follow/unfollow method but that feels super insincere to me. But now my followers are at about 1000, and I follow about 3000 accounts. Is that number too unbalanced? Any red flags with this?
