Who does your analytics?
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

I’m working a gig at a large not-for-profit right now where I’m running the social accounts and using them largely to drive traffic to our articles and publications on our website.

I have Hootsuite and also Google Analytics set up. I am quite comfortable with the analytic output of the former, but the latter is just endless and I am definitely not a data analyst by training, nor do I aspire to be.

I’ve had a fair bit of scope creep recently where I’ve been asked to delve more and more into the details of my work on social as well as email and organic traffic on Google Analytics.

It’s gotten to the point where I’m having a hard time finding the time to create the social posts that will generate the good metrics I’m supposed to be measuring/improving on. And in depth data analysis doesn’t seem to be compatible with the working style of social where you’re always checking on different feeds because you need to be wholly focused on the analysis task.

I’m curious if this is a typical situation where the social media person is also in charge of web analytics in general (and I’m just bad at time management/super slow) or if I’m right in thinking these are usually two separate jobs (resources permitting, of course), or should be outsourced to someone who knows what they’re doing.

NB: it’s definitely not in my job description and I am not paid accordingly
