Sponsored content (ie on Twitter & Instagram) freaking sucks. They should just say "We need X much money this month to grow our business" and have a website where people who want that service can all donate to fund it as a global community. So the service is better, and the wealthier pay.

Like think about it. People would gladly donate money for a service that brings them so much joy. The concept of making people pay for something to use it (like Instagram) is justifiably a bad idea, and so we jump to ads to fund it. But if you just let it be funded by donation, problem solved. They would make the goal with no trouble every time.
