How to know when your business is tagged

I already know that Instagram doesn’t notify your account if you’re tagged by a private account in a post/image/story. It kinda makes sense but it doesn’t. Is the same true for FaceBook?
Does anybody have any workarounds for getting shared content from their customers without forcing them to take their account out of private mode (because I don’t blame them).
