Facebook Location Pages

I'm about to tackle this for the first time and want to make sure I have all of my details right before diving in.
The client already has separate pages for each location, so the plan is to create a new page that use as their main parent page and then add the pages they already have under this. Are there any downsides to doing it this way?
All of their location pages have pretty good followings, content, reviews, etc so I don't want to risk jeopardize losing any of this. If we do move to the parent/child structure, do the location pages still act as their own entities (eg we can control page roles for each location). Facebook's support documentation doesn't really go into to much detail aside from actually setting up the structure.
