I think I just got super screwed by Facebook

Background: I deactivated my Facebook account 5 years ago and perhaps wrongly thought that after a certain amount of time, a deactivated account becomes fully deleted. Fast foward to now, I have been happily enjoying my life as a non-Facebook user. I wake up this morning to an email from Facebook stating "Welcome back to Facebook. Hey ____, The Facebook account associated with (my email) was recently reactivated. If you were not the one who reactivated this account, please visit our Help Center." So I freaked, barely even awake, clicked the link for the Help Center and it brought me to the official FB site. I was prompted to login, but of course could not remember my password, so I went thorugh the process to change it. Then, in order to login with my new password to actually get back into my account, it said I must verify my identity one of two ways: upload my photo ID or contact 3 people from my friends list (they gave me a choice of 5 people who I don't even remember!!) and ask them to do some cockamamy thing. So in a panicked attempt at getting back into FB so I can finally delete it and be done with this nightmare, I uploaded my drivers licence. I am now panicking again that I really fucked myself over now because I have not heard back from FB yet as to whether I am verified and can go into my account to get rid of it. Furthermore, I'm worried about how my account actually got reactivated in the first place?! and why. In the meantime, my friends who have FB looked me up and I am indeed active again on there (but no new activity). So yeah, if anyone else has gone through this and can shed some light, I'd be so grateful. EDIT: I forgot to mention that on the FB site I clicked the link for “I think I’ve been hacked” and uploaded my photo ID, so I’m waiting for them to respond to my claim of being hacked.
