As of today, the Prada Group has officially announced that it will no longer use animal fur in any of its designs or products. In partnership with the Fur Free Alliance (FFA), Mui Mui, Prada, Church’s and Car Shoe have committed to fur-free clothing and accessories starting with their SS2020 Women’s wear collections. In a statement, Miuccia Prada expressed that “focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products.”

Finally, after years of pressure from animal rights supporters, Prada will be joining the likes of other fur-free luxury brands such as Burberry, Coach, Gucci, and Versace, among others. With educated consumers and changing habits, it’s important that luxury brands are committing to this well awaited change. The new concept of ‘ethical luxury’ is becoming more apparent alongside the need for brands to be more socially responsible.

As of today, The Fur Free Retailer Program includes 1,000 companies, which Fur Free Alliance sees as a positive sign for the future. As their program gains global momentum, fur will no longer be viewed as an acceptable fashion trend.
