Is Facebook live-streaming boosting the confidence of terror creators?

The recent New Zealand Christchurch firing incident puts a question mark over Facebook’s credibility. The social-networking giant’s maligned integrity can be accredited to the fact that terrorists live-streamed the entire horrific incident without any official intervention.
If Facebook can use the platform for targeted advertising, why can’t terrorists use it for spreading terror?
The incident has engulfed Facebook in an unfathomable hatred situation with criticism pouring in from across the globe. It took about twenty-nine minutes and thousands of views before the live-streamed butchery at the mosque was actually reported to Facebook and ultimately taken down.
This barbaric incidence provides enough testimony to the fears of millions of Facebook users as to how reliable their gargantuan social networking site is, in terms of global security.
Although the live-stream, which started at 1.40 PM during the middle of this month, was viewed only by a handful of users, it was enough for it to get replicated, and then spread virally across the globe in nanoseconds through Google’s YouTube, Twitter, as well as other platforms.
In wake of the Christchurch shooting incidence, famous New Zealand brands such as ASB Bank, fast-food giant Burger King, and telecom firm Spark have reportedly pulled down ads from Facebook & Google.
In the coming weeks, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the world retaliates to this and how Facebook retorts to the repercussions.
