Unmerging a merged page?

Our communications department merged an affiliate Facebook page with our main page without checking with anyone first. All the users were ported to our main page, but all the data on the affiliated page was lost, most notably the pictures. The communications department claims that Facebook told them that everything is gone and there is no retrieving the page or the pictures, but I am incredulous. I have not had any luck with Facebook support in the past, so I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has any thoughts on this before I expended the energy reaching out to them.
