Is Facebook Dying?
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
I swear to god I could announce that I have cancer on Facebook and nobody would notice.
For the last 10 years or so, I used Facebook as a platform to reach out to people as well as market things. If I wanted to invite friends to a rave I was organizing, or a yard sale, or to ask technical/medical advice on something. If I was visiting another city/country and wanted to let people know in case they wanted to meet up. Even just sharing my travel photos. I would always get a ton of reaction to my posts.
Then over the last 18 months there has been a shift. Less and less people react to anything I post. In fact, most seem completely unaware that I've posted anything at all. I went from getting 50+ reactions to every post I made, to less than 1 most days. A few of my friends have told me that they've been going through the same problem. They suspect it's the analytics of facebook that's behind this, but I'm not sure. Facebook altogether seems like a far less personal place than it was just 2 years ago. It's mostly full of ads to tell the truth.
So what's going on? Is facebook dying? IF so, how does one share news publicly to those they care about? Where does one market events to their local community or their peers? How does one still have out reach to their friends as well as the general public?
