What are some social media rules that you constantly come back to, or schools of thought for networks?

Besides all of the academic best practices out there- do you have any simple personal schools of thought, or rules, that you have for yourself in your own head to help navigate the channels?

For example a few of my own.. obviously these won't apply to everyone or in all cases:

  • Typically if and when you're able to be more transparent, you should be. People appreciate it.
  • Bright and Sharp (high-res) images tend to always outperform those that are dark or lower res.
  • Stories (any network) best done on the fly- typically only use this space if I have a few ideas in mind for multiple posts to tell a better story.
  • Facebook: People grab engagement.. faces or tags.. tend to catch more interest than content without it.
  • Keep it positive.. a personal one- but I don't really enjoy negative stories or 'bad news'
  • Twitter: thinking of it as a cocktail party, is this still right? Struggling with the best analogy for 2018 Twitter.. maybe a modern day news reader with brands swimming around.
