I'm an old man, why don't the hashtags I follow on instagram show up on my feed?

I dont understand this new technology I guess. I started following a handful of popular hashtags #outdoors for example. Started yesterday afternoon and still haven't seen anything from that tag in my feed. Aren't I supposed to be able to see photos tagged with that in my feed, isn't that the point of following?
