Being replaced by a 23 year old...

Little bit of a rant here from a seasoned social media marketer (10+ years in the digital space)...

I'm a digital marketing manager at a large non-profit and have spent the past two years defining and executing a first-ever digital marketing strategy that's garnered a whoooole lot of online donations for our organization. On top of being accountable for raising online funds, I managed all our paid/organic social, email and website content.

For various reasons - but most notably the lack of professional growth opportunities - I took another job at a different company (for-profit). Super excited about my new gig, but sad to go and genuinely want the best for the nonprofit I'm leaving.

Before I put in my resignation, the team was in the hiring process for a copywriter on the marketing team. They had narrowed it down to two people. Then I put in my 2 weeks. They decided that they'd hire one of the copywriter applicants for my job.

She's 23. Never worked in FB ads manager. Never done social media/digital reporting. Has never had to bring in revenue through digital ads.

Why am I so annoyed by this? I'm moving on to better things. But I feel like I put in so much foundational hard work only to now pass the torch to an extremely entry level ... kid.

It also makes me feel like noone knows what social media is. It's maddening that they think just because someone is young, they must just instinctively know how to run social media campaigns.

Anyone else feel my pain?
