There is an annual event taking place in two weeks May 25-26 in town. The event is fairly big and brings a lot of people from the town and from the surrounding metro city. My potential client who is kind of older has the Instagram account for the event with 550 followers and has not been updated since May 24, 2017. I am wondering if we should create a new account and start engaging local businesses and local people instead of using the existing almost dead account. The photos posted in the existing account are fine. They are all relevant to the theme of the event. But I think starting a new account with “2018” and connecting the same local businesses may work much better as the Instagram has changed so much since a year ago, and nobody really notice this dead account starting to post something new unless they get some notification or something. I think following notification helps get noticed and propagates to other local businesses and those who have a stake in the event. The client does a decent job in posting on the Facebook page for the event, and I think that’s fine while it is getting few attentions there. The event has less than 10 local sponsors who get acknowledged at the stage and publications, but I hope to raise small funds from posting ads for local businesses that are not official sponsors, maybe like $20/post or so. Another reason that I want to have a new account is that I am afraid that the existing account is connected to the Facebook account, which makes it difficult for me to have a freedom of when and what to post on Instagram because the client may have to give me a permission to use a connected Instagram account. He is an older man, so he just posts pics on Facebook just as everyone used to do 5 years ago. He doesn’t know how well Stories work and the latest engagement tricks. I don’t want to ask him permission or something every time I want to post something that I believe is good to keep the anticipation of the event next 12 days or so. Any thought or experience in the same/similar situation?
