Safest way to bulk unfollow on instagram?

From my understanding if you use automated unfollowing applications it results in a shadow ban and you end up getting less likes and less engagement on your posts. I want to clean off my unfollowers, what’s the safest way to do that?
I’m ok with doing it manually so long as it doesn’t penalize my account any further, any help is appreciated. thanks
