I recently interviewed the owners of Boufe, a boutique cafe located in Singapore. They went from DotA buddies to restaurant owners in less than a year, and through lots of struggling, managed to sustainably grow their restaurant year-on-year (their cafe has been around for 4 years now.)
As noob restaurant owners, they picked a location that was super difficult to get to, and couldn't capitalize on natural foot traffic that would discover their restaurant.
As a result, they had to get creative, and begin to "smartly" use Instagram to drive interest in their cafe, and make their customers travel all the way down to try their food.
