How do you create GIFs for Instagram stories?

Hey all,
You're probably familiar with IG's GIF sticker feature - it basically allows you add a 'GIF sticker' in your stories by searching Giphy's library.
I've seen users create their own GIFs on Giphy and using them on IG stories. I tried to do the same but I can't find my GIF when I search for it on Giphy.
Does anyone have any idea how to do this?
