With light, breezy fabrics like chiffon and lace ruling the spring season, transparent clothing always makes its rounds this time of year. Though houses like Alexander McQueen continued to find inspiration in delicate gardens and spring weddings this season, runways at Valentino, Balenciaga and VFiles skewed practical.
Chanel constructed a 30-foot waterfall and accompanying gardens inside the Grand Palais to recreate the Gorges du Verdon. To protect their signature tweed separates from the mist, models wore transparent plastic rain slickers and wide-brimmed hats with their waterproof boots and totes. Even their slick ponytails stayed frizz-free thanks to the transparent plastic tubes encasing them.
While we love the idea of wisping around in layers of tulle after months of long nights and dreary days, let’s face it: the rain (and occasional slush) of spring requires some weatherproofing. Keep your Rodarte-esque romanticism in the closet for drier months and consider the April showers before investing in your spring wardrobe.
